The County Co-ordinator acts as the "team leader" for a specific area and census year.
Some Co-Ords may wish to supervise more than one 'team' at a given time.

Guidance, Assistance and Support will be available from the FreeCEN Organisers, and from fellow Co-Ords.

A County Co-ordinator will:-

  • arrange for a source of Census Images (fiche, film, or CD according to supply) to be made available for the selected County and Year.
  • arrange for Promotion of the sub-project by Internet, e-mail Lists, etc, so that suitable volunteers are recruited for the various operations.
  • arrange and control the allocation of work through the Transcription, Checking and Validation stages, ideally with regular follow-up reports to the team in order to maintain interest and to advise them of progress.

Any of the following tasks may be delegated according to the availability of suitable volunteers:-

  • basic coaching and guidance of new volunteers to the FreeCEN system and methods.
  • create and maintain a suitable Internet WebPage which will act as a publicity and promotional report for the team's progress.
  • check, using supplied Utility Programmes, that completed stages of work are suitable for subsequent FreeCEN processing.
This will also include conversion of transcripts created using spreadsheets into a FreeCEN-compliant format.
  • "Post-Validation" and Uploading of finished work for installation into the FreeCEN database.
